List of seven books for busy people to read on holidays

Very few of us are able to find the time to read for pleasure on a daily basis. Even more reason not to waste the opportunity provided by the summer holidays. What to read to better distance yourself from everyday reality and get sufficient rest? Keep on reading.

Do you read several dozen pages of work related documents every day? This must surely discourage you from reading books in the evenings. When you are on holiday, your mind can get away from mandatory reads, so you can enjoy reading for leisure even more. Some proposals of books to consider for this occasion are provided below.

“The King”

Are you looking for hard fiction set in the 1930’? Try “The King” [Król] by Szczepan Twardoch. This is literature at its finest. An exciting story of the main character coupled with the specific style of the writer will hook you up instantly.

“Me and My Idiot Friends”

Do you need a book to pick you up, make you laugh and think? “Me and My Idiot Friends” [Ja i moje przyjaciółki idiotki] by Joanna Okuniewska will surely meet your needs. Despite what the title may suggest, it is not typical female prose.

“This is a book for everyone! For every person who thought, at least once, that their own love life was a joke, and everybody else’s relationships are happy and sparkling. For every person who has ever felt that being single is like an escape room that you have to get out from as quickly as possible. For everyone who has ever gone through a breakup and felt completely lost” – the author writes on her webpage.

“The Confession”

For a story about a secret and the devastating power of love, try “The Confession” by Jessie Burton. It is a book for readers who appreciate detailed psychological portraits of characters and who relish every sentence. Since her debut with “The Miniaturist”, the author has been famous for her excellent depictions of female characters trying to find their identity.

“Normal People”

“Normal People” by Sally Rooney is a story of two teenagers whom we follow along their way through the years, experiencing their ups and downs with them, getting to observe various civilizational changes (including the technological transformation) that have had enormous impact on our entire everyday lives. This book makes you think about your relationships and emotions in the age of advancing digitalization and social media.

“Blinded by the Lights”

It didn’t take much time for “Blinded by the Lights” [Ślepnąc od świateł] by Jakub Żulczyk to become a bombshell. The main character faces both his present and the demons of his past. The author’s fans know both his skill at depiction and his mastery of language very well. For others, this book can be recommended also due to the differences in how the story unfolds in the book and the HBO series adaptation.

“The Power of Your Subconscious Mind”

For those who don’t enjoy fiction and want to use the holiday break to read something that can empower them for their post-holiday struggles “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy will be an excellent choice. This is a “mind manual” of sorts, present on bestsellers lists for decades, and is the perfect book to reinforce your self-confidence and teach you to accept adversity not as a punishment but as lessons for the future. Change your way of thinking this summer and watch your life become easier!

“Addiction to Perfection”

If you don’t shy away from more ambitious books, try “Addiction to Perfection” by Marion Woodman. It is not the easiest read, but it will leave you with valuable insights on our common obsessions and pursuit of perfection. Warning! This book is mostly addressed to female readers, but it can be definitely recommended to members of the opposite sex.

The selection above comes from a variety of topics and categories. However, all these books have one thing in common: they focus on the human being, their emotional and spiritual development, away from the hectic chase of everyday life. And this is what holidays are all about, isn’t it?
