7 savoir-vivre rules in coworking

Many people think that a coworking space is a place where people work together. Nothing could be further from the truth. Although there is a lot of people, the coworking space is designed for individual work. Therefore, following basic savoir-vivre rules is vital.

First, turn on the silent mode in your phone

Entering a coworking space? Turn off your ringer. There is nothing more annoying than the sound of popular music coming from several desks at once. Always have your phone on you. When you receive a phone call, talk in the corridor or in a private phone booth. This way you won’t be interrupting others. You know that you will be talking to your client over the phone or via Skype? Book a conference room and talk as long as you wish.

Second, control networking

One of the biggest advantages of coworking is establishing business contacts. But remember – don’t overdo it. Don’t be intrusive and don’t try to get new clients at all costs. People really don’t like being cornered. Meet new people spontaneously, e.g. while talking to them in the dining room.

Third, don’t gossip

You work with a group of friends in a coworking space? Remember that it is not a place to discuss personal problems. Other workers are not interested in your marital difficulties or news from your housing estate or your child’s kindergarten. Don’t discuss private issues in a public space.

Fourth, keep it clean

Coworking is often associated with the aroma of freshly ground coffee. It is an indispensable element of every morning. Who wouldn’t like to start their day with something enjoyable? After having your coffee, return the cup to the dining room and if you are required to wash it up, do so. The same applies to all dishes you use. A heap of mugs and plates in the sink doesn’t make work any easier.

Fifth, keep it tidy

Coworking is a shared working space. You have your own desk? Keep it tidy. Do not leave a stack of papers and notes after finishing your work. Take it home. Try not to leave your phone, laptop or wallet unattended. Follow the rule of limited trust in coworking spaces. If there is something you don’t want to carry with you all the time, lock it in one of private cabinets located in various places in our offices.

Sixth, remember about manners

In coworking, you make your own work rules. You want a break? Go for it. Relax in the chill room. Lunch break? Have your lunch in the dining room or eat out. Eating in front of your laptop can be burdensome for other workers. Smell quickly fills the whole space. Respect shared space. Can you imaging a coworking space smelling of tuna?

Seventh, be polite

Have you ever heard that it is better to work with people who smile often? It’s true. Greet everyone while entering a coworking space, talk to your colleagues while having coffee and be polite.
